You Are in Control

It's time to take back your power.

This past year we all lost a lot of control. We didn’t know what our next day would look like, whether our children would be back in school, or when we would be back at the office. For a while we didn’t even know if we would be able to buy basic necessities like toilet paper.

2020 hit us like a train. But, after a while a lot of us have found some stability in our lives as we have grown accustomed to the new normal. Unfortunately, there are still many things that we have no control over. Consider this big concept: the list of things you have power over is more than you may think. By focusing on the things you can control, you will find more peace amid the chaos.

While it seems that many of us have grown accustomed to the new normal, some of us still feel like we’re drowning. I know what this feels like. It can be hard to get out of bed in the morning, hard to feel inspired, impossible to find the energy. Now while I can’t control outside forces, I do have control over some important things. This list may be short but, I have found these to help tremendously with my anxiety and give me a little stability back into my life.

  1. Food. You get to decide every day what you put into your body and how you nourish it. Food is what keeps you going. By providing yourself with the right foods you’ll be able to maintain a better attitude, have more energy and a clearer mind.  Consider what food makes you feel good and makes you feel happy.  Eat those things always!
  2. Thoughts. This one may feel a little controversial to some, but it is so true. You can’t control what pops into your head, but with some practice and a conscious effort you can start turning those negative thoughts in a different direction. When you start to think positive thoughts you will find yourself in a significantly better mood. We already believe in you, but believing in yourself is the first major step towards a new you.
  3. Time Spent. I understand time is not always something that can be controlled, but what you do with your free time is entirely up to you. What do you want to do? You can watch TV, read a book, exercise, you can do anything. Everyone has 24 hours in their day and the most successful people use every one of those hours to the fullest. It’s all about your priorities and listening to your body and hearing what it needs. Prioritize time for yourself and do the things that fill you up.

While this list may be short, I challenge you to think about all the other things in life you have control over. It might sound daunting, but realizing your ability to focus on the positive things you have power over will bring back some stability in your life. You got this.
