A Community Wellness Clinic Women’s Obesity Medicine Nurse Practitioner Fellowship program is a two-year clinical training program for family nurse practitioners which provides advanced subspecialty training in the field of obesity medicine and independent clinic ownership with individual business coaching. The program offers one position annually and is designed to for family nurse practitioners who anticipate their future activities to be solely the clinical practice of this specialty, as well as those who plan to continue on as clinician-educators or intend to pursue careers in obesity medicine. The teaching environment and educational experiences for fellows will prepare them for a career as a clinical, educational, or business ownership in this exciting and rapidly developing field of medicine.

Fellows will develop clinical expertise in obesity medicine with a focus on women.  Skills in evaluation and management of obesity and related comorbidities particular to women, along with a complex understanding of independent business ownership and management and expertise in technology-connected medicine built for the next generation of patients.

Training will take place in an independent medical practice online and in-person connected to a collaborative network of other like-minded individual throughout the states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.  Fellows will work with and learn from certified obesity medicine nurse practitioners, physical therapists, nutritionists, registered nurses, and mental health professionals.  Elective rotations may include hepatology, lymphedema clinic, and alternative medicine specialists locally or online.

Educational experiences for fellows include clinical preceptorship, a structured curriculum coordinated with external courses to obtain more experience in coaching, retreats, emotionally focused therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, food trauma, and complex PTSD.  All experience are steeped with an understanding the feminine mystique combined with the perspective of life through todays women’s roles in life and healthcare.  Culmination of the program training results in a Washington state hypnotherapy certificate and Obesity Medicine Association Certificate of Advanced Education.

Fellows will take an active role in attending and presenting at national and local conferences, as well as in the education of nurse practitioner students and Obesity Medicine Nurse Practitioner fellows.  Fellows will also complete required components to open a business in the state of Washington, Oregon, or Idaho by the end of the program with an option to join the A Community Wellness Clinic collective or open their own independent business specializing in obesity medicine and/or family practice.

Applications will be accepted from June 1 to October 20, 2026 (and beyond if a position remains unfilled) for a position with a start date of January 15, 2027. Interviews will be conducted in November, and an offer will be extended in December.
