How to Prevent the Freshman 15

How to Prevent the Freshman 15

Back to school.

It’s that time of year, back to school, a whole new routine to learn, late nights and early mornings. Change. Change can be so incredibly difficult for a lot of us. It breeds instability and anxiety.

But don’t worry. As a women’s holistic weight loss clinic, we have more significant conversations than just diet and exercise – because stress is more integral to weight issues than you know. Your weight loss, your health, is about your lifestyle, and college is a huge lifestyle change. Here are some quick tips to help you feel more settled in your new routine and find some stability again.

Keep a journal. Journals are great for writing down your goals and keeping you personally accountable. They are a great way to release your thoughts in any shape you want – nobody is grading them. Write in fragmented sentences, doodle all over the page, only put down a few words – do whatever you want with it. It’s just for you.

Purchase a physical planner. If you’re anything like me, you need to see how your next day, week and month looks. Seeing it and writing things down helps you conceptualize and remember what you need to get done.  Another option if you are more electronic, is to use a free calendar link to google calendar.  You can color code and share your schedule with others.  Maybe block out some time just for you.

Meal Prep. Meal prepping is a game-changer. Everyone hates that daily panic of “what is actually for dinner?!” Save money, eat better and save time not worrying about what your next meal is by planning it out ahead of time. Having something prepared allows you to worry less and spend more time doing the things you actually enjoy.

Schedule time just for you. Spending time on yourself is an essential part of maintaining your mind, body and soul balance. Make sure you engage in soul sustainers – whether that’s reading your favorite book, watching TV or getting your nails done. Self-care IS health care! If you’re not taking care of yourself, you’ll find it challenging to take care of your growing list of responsibilities.
