Does Lemon Water Help You with Weight Loss?

A Drink Full of Fresh Lemons Topped with Mint Leaves

Lemon water is often lauded as a weight loss miracle, but does it really help you shed pounds? Well, the jury is still out on that one. Some experts say that lemon water can help boost your metabolism and aid in weight loss, while others claim that it’s nothing more than a myth. So, what’s the verdict? Let’s take a look at whether there is any merit to the claim that lemon water can help you lose weight.

Is Lemon Water Good for Weight Loss?

There is no scientific evidence to support the claim that lemon water aids in weight loss. However, drinking lemon water may help you lose weight indirectly by replacing sugary drinks with a healthier option. Lemon water keeps your body hydrated, which is essential for weight loss. Drinking adequate amounts of water can help boost your metabolism, flush out toxins, and promote satiety. This, in turn, may help you eat fewer calories and lose weight.  In addition, increasing water intake will decrease the concentration in urea of your urine.  For women who have weight issues, pelvic floor dysfunction (or peeing your pants when sneezing, coughing, or moving) is improved because decreased urea causes less irritability to bladder tissue, thus, improving incontinence.

Lemon water is also low in calories and contains some nutrients that may promote weight loss. For instance, lemon water contains vitamin C, which is necessary for the synthesis of carnitine. Carnitine is an amino acid that helps your body burn fat. It may also help if you check out how many calories should a woman eat daily to lose weight so that you know what you around where your caloric intake might need to be. Additionally, lemon water contains polyphenols, which are plant compounds that have been linked to weight loss. So, to sum up, while there is no scientific evidence to support the claim that lemon water aids in weight loss, it does contain some nutrients that may promote weight loss.  More importantly, it keeps your hydrated which makes you look younger.

How to Make Lemon Water for Weight Loss?

There are many ways to make lemon water for weight loss. You can simply add a slice of lemon to your glass of water or squeeze the fresh lemon juice into your water. If you want to make a more concentrated lemon water solution, mix one cup of water with the juice of two lemons. You can also add a bit of honey or stevia to sweeten the taste. Drink this lemon water solution throughout the day, preferably before meals.

In addition to liquid lemon water, you can also make lemon water ice cubes. Simply freeze lemon slices or lemon juice in ice cube trays and add a few cubes to your glass of water. I sometimes like to add a few mint leaves or cucumber slices to my lemon water for an extra refreshing flavor. Or, if you’re feeling really adventurous, you can try making sparkling lemon water. Simply add a few drops of lemon juice to sparkling water and enjoy.
